A study in Belgian stone

Blue stone, Gobertange, Euville: a short tour of the quarries that built the country's quietest rooms.
Belgium has a stone for almost every purpose. Petit granit, quarried at Soignies, is dense and nearly black when wet. Gobertange is soft, pale and warm. Euville is almost white.
We use them differently. Petit granit goes outside, where it can weather. Gobertange goes in the rooms people touch. We rarely mix them.
A good mason will tell you which way the stone wants to lie. It is worth listening.
